About Eco Sober Houses

This sober home in Dorchester promotes a rigorous program for men who need community and accountability on their road to sobriety. When clients arrive, they are put on a 30-day restriction where they are without their cell phone, car and can only leave with trusted individuals from the sober home. The program is centered around Alcoholics Anonymous and the clients are taught the disease model of addiction to help them make sense of their situation. During the early days of client arrival, they work on writing the 4th step of AA: to write their resentments and fears and assess their part in all of it. Once this step is complete, clients are then allowed to go back to work and are given their cell phone. Clients are required to attend nightly meetings Monday through Thursday and stay in contact with their sponsor. The cost of living in this sober home is an initial payment of $400 and then $200 each week following.

Evidence-Based Context: According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2023), approximately 48.7 million Americans aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder in the past year. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) emphasizes that treatment programs combining behavioral therapy with medication-assisted approaches show the highest rates of sustained recovery. Facilities like Eco Sober Houses provide structured pathways to evidence-based care. Sources: SAMHSA NSDUH 2023, NIDA Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment (4th Ed.)
