About Hensley House

Hensley House is a men-only sober living program in Austin, Texas providing a safe, supportive, and fun sober living environment for men in recovery. Hensley House has 2 houses that can house up to 11 residents each with 2 house managers. Residents are required to follow a set of guidelines while in the program that include random drug testing, actively attending a 12-Step group, working with a sponsor, completing chores, and finding a job within the first 2 weeks. Hensley House supports residents by teaching life skills such as time management, nutrition, resume writing, and conflict resolution.
A goal of Hensley House is to show men how to have a fun and fulfilling life while sober. To this end, they plan and include regular recreational activities in the cost of the program. Some of the activities include visiting the arcade, amusement park, attending sporting events, bowling, going to concerts, fishing, and many more. Onsite, residents have access to a fitness center, pool, and a recreation room. Also included in the monthly cost is a membership to the local YMCA, cleaning supplies, linens, and utilities.

Evidence-Based Context: According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2023), approximately 48.7 million Americans aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder in the past year. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) emphasizes that treatment programs combining behavioral therapy with medication-assisted approaches show the highest rates of sustained recovery. Facilities like Hensley House provide structured pathways to evidence-based care. Sources: SAMHSA NSDUH 2023, NIDA Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment (4th Ed.)
