About Newport Academy Costa Mesa Outpatient
Newport Academy Costa Mesa takes a whole-person approach to healing children ages 7-11 and teens 12-18 with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and co-occurring issues like substance use, self-harm, and disordered eating. Their partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) provide therapeutic and academic services that also support the entire family. The center is near Costa Mesa’s arts community and the area’s coastal parks, canyons, and beaches for adventure therapy.
With programming all day, five days a week, Newport Academy’s PHP is a solution for clients who need a high level of support, but who do not quite qualify for residential care. It includes individual, group, family, and experiential therapy, along with an accredited academic program. Their IOP is ideal for young people who are progressing in their recovery, offering continued support five afternoons a week after school.
Newport Academy addresses clients’ psychological, physical, social, emotional, and educational needs with compassionate care, clinical expertise, and unconditional love. Their clinicians are trained in science-backed therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and attachment-based family therapy, designed to heal the parent-child relationship and improve communication. Clients also engage in yoga, meditation, creative expression through art and music, and outdoor adventure therapy. Their children’s programming includes sensory rooms, play therapy, and other child-specific modalities.
Newport’s approach to treatment supports the unique needs of LGBTQ+ youth, providing tools to navigate the world, build self-worth, and form strong relationships with peers, mentors, and community. Their clinical experts and care staff have expertise in addressing the specific mental health challenges that LGBTQ+ youth face. They’ve also partnered with the Trevor Project, the nation’s foremost LGBTQ+ advocacy and research organization, to provide specialized training for their staff.
