Turning Winds is a residential treatment program for teens ages 13-18 with mental health and substance use disorders, using an evidence-based approach and providing personalized academic programs. Nestled in the scenic mountains of Montana, this facility uses the expansive natural surroundings to provide a tranquil and therapeutic environment that promotes healing. Turning Winds is dedicated to providing a robust, individualized treatment plan for each client. The residential program consists of various diagnostic and clinical services, including at least one individual therapy session each week, a series of group sessions, discharge planning, and round-the-clock supervision. Treatment services include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, and equine therapy. Day treatment (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are also available for clients who are prepared to integrate back into their daily lives but still require support. Their care team consists of licensed medical and mental health professionals who are committed to delivering compassionate, client-centered care. Academic excellence is at the core of Turning Winds’ mission. Teens are provided with experiential learning opportunities, leadership development, college and career planning resources, field trips, and technology integration. The faculty is fully credentialed and prepared to provide each student with an individualized academic program, taking into consideration previous transcripts, learning disability, talents, and other accommodations. The average class size is between 8 and 12 students, allowing the teachers to spend time with each student. Turning Winds is located on 150 acres along the banks of the South Fork Yaak River, offering a serene and expansive environment. Spacious shared bedrooms are provided in addition to nutritious, chef-prepared meals. The picturesque setting provides clients with the opportunity to engage in adventure therapy, experiential therapy, and recreational therapy. On-campus facilities include a workout room, basketball court, soccer field, softball field, and sand volleyball court. Outdoor activities both on and off-campus include hiking, mountain biking, skiing, rafting, and swimming.
