Unity Children’s Home in Spring, Texas is a non-profit center that provides
residential treatment programs for children and teens ages 5 to 17. This facility is licensed by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services to provide standard service for 24-hour child care. It serves as a safe haven for the youth who have experienced significant trauma, including physical or emotional abuse, drug addiction and abandonment, and also accepts children who have had conflict with law.
The program provides a recovery foundation through a safe, supportive and organized space to start children's healing journeys. Children engage in a mix of individual counseling to address personal trauma and
group therapy sessions, which help build social skills. Youth learn skills to develop self-control, manage emotions, progress in school performance, and increase self-productivity.
This center prioritizes youth recovery and continuous education. Through partnerships with nearby schools, Unity's small, onsite school assigns an Education Consenter to monitor each child's enrollment and educational plan. This ensures children with high emotional needs receive necessary educational and behavioral support. Children also attend a six-week summer enrichment program focused on academic and experiential learning.
The facility offers a structured, home-like setting with 24 beds, featuring shared rooms with bunk beds, separate rooms for girls and boys, and common learning areas. Trained staff supervise outdoor recreational and cultural activities, field trips, life skills, and fine and/or gross motor skills training to encourage self-expression and improve social skills.
Evidence-Based Context: According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2023), approximately 48.7 million Americans aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder in the past year. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) emphasizes that treatment programs combining behavioral therapy with medication-assisted approaches show the highest rates of sustained recovery. Facilities like Unity Childrens Home provide structured pathways to evidence-based care.
