Founded in 1975, Women’s Recovery Services (WRS) offers a 120-day
residential treatment program exclusively for pregnant and parenting women. The program provides safe housing for up to 52 women and children, addressing addiction alongside co-occurring mental health challenges and trauma. WRS also operates three long-term transitional care homes across Santa Rosa to support ongoing recovery.
WRS delivers individualized care through counseling, dual-diagnosis treatment, prenatal and medical support, immunizations, off-site 12-step meetings, and transportation to school, appointments, and court.
Holistic classes include activities such as collage art, haircuts, flower arranging, dancing, writing, music, equine therapy, bees and honey, vision boards, pilates, meditation, and sound healing. These activities promote emotional, physical, and spiritual healing, empowering women to rebuild healthy, stable lives with their children.
The center offers The Children’s Program where young children live on-site and receive compassionate care while their mothers attend recovery classes. School-age children attend nearby schools with full support. Parenting guidance and play therapy help families reconnect, fostering recovery and growth in a safe, nurturing environment.
Evidence-Based Context: According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2023), approximately 48.7 million Americans aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder in the past year. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) emphasizes that treatment programs combining behavioral therapy with medication-assisted approaches show the highest rates of sustained recovery. Facilities like Women's Recovery Services provide structured pathways to evidence-based care.
