The Drug Therapy Center was established in 1986 in Ráckeresztúr, Hungary on the initiative of the reformed pastor Eszter Erdős. The history of the therapeutic community began in a small farmhouse, and today it has two modern building complexes housing adults ages 18 to 35 and adolescent and young adults ages 10 to 18. Their goal is not only to create a drug-free environment, but also a self-supporting, full-fledged, drug-free lifestyle. The Drug Therapy Center uses a solution-seeking approach combining positive psychology and the experience of Christian values to provide a framework for clients. The main values of the program are love, respect, and acceptance. Their Christian program reflects the natural lifestyles and values of the on-site staff. Devotions are held in the evenings, along with worship on Sundays, a weekly bible study, and prayer at meal times. Faith is, of course, not an obligation, but an opportunity offered by The Drug Therapy Center. The highly structured program begins at 7:30 a.m. starting with group sessions, followed by 3 to 5 hours of work around the house and garden. Seminars take place in the afternoon, followed by evening meals and self reflective groups. Lights out at 11:30 p.m. Hungary is a beautiful country, and in the summer clients take part in recreational activities like cycling and canoeing. Young adults have the opportunity to take part in a nomad camping trip, canoeing, and attending a spiritual week. The Drug Therapy Center offers a safe, caring environment needed for long-term recovery.
