Red Oak Recovery® brings together evidence-based addiction treatment and adventure therapy in a clinician-run program in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Their clinically dynamic care is designed to address men’s unique challenges while helping their families recover, grow, and make lasting lifestyle changes.
The program at Red Oak Recovery® is centered on helping men free themselves from the destructive thoughts, actions, and self-sabotage that stem from addiction, trauma, and mental health concerns. Their master’s level clinicians hold dual credentials in both mental health and clinical addiction treatment, and work closely with clients to create personalized treatment plans that address substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions with a focus on and sensitivity to unresolved trauma. They use multiple trauma and PTSD treatment modalities, as well as 12-Step principles, traditional talk therapies, experiential therapy, yoga therapy, and
family therapy.
Set in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Red Oak Recovery® provides a lodge-style retreat designed to balance comfort and connection. Clients gather in welcoming spaces, including a communal dining room, yoga room, and fitness center with weights. Outdoor features include a shelter with grills and a fireplace, plus basketball and ping pong. This serene environment supports both recreation and recovery in a natural, restorative setting.
After a client graduates from Red Oak Recovery®, they meet with their case manager or discharge planner to develop an aftercare plan. This plan outlines continued care, including information about the client’s follow-up appointments, support system, and recovery goals. Their alumni program involves a supportive network of men who gather for regular social events and opportunities for service work.
Evidence-Based Context: According to SAMHSA's National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2023), approximately 48.7 million Americans aged 12 or older had a substance use disorder in the past year. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) emphasizes that treatment programs combining behavioral therapy with medication-assisted approaches show the highest rates of sustained recovery. Facilities like Red Oak Recovery provide structured pathways to evidence-based care.
